Government Filings lets your firm prepare, sign, and electronically file the Form 5500 series directly from Stax.ai CX. Instead of juggling a separate filing portal, you build the filing where your plan data already lives, validate it, collect signatures, and submit it to the Department of Labor through EFAST2 — the government's electronic filing system.
Note: Government Filings is currently available to pilot teams. If you'd like access, contact your account manager.
Key capabilities
The full 5500 family. Build filings for Form 5500, Form 5500-SF, and Form 5500-EZ, plus supported schedules (including Schedules A, C, D, G, H, I, R, MB, SB, MEP, and DCG) and common attachments like the Accountant Opinion.
Extensions too. File a Form 5558 extension to EFAST2 when a plan needs more time.
Less re-typing. Pull in prior-year filing data and plan asset information to pre-fill the current year's draft, then review and adjust.
Validation before submission. CX checks the filing against EFAST2 rules and shows errors and warnings before anything is filed — so rejections get caught early.
Flexible signing. Send the form to your client to review and sign, or submit directly to the DOL using the signer's EFAST2 credentials.
A permanent record. Every submission is tracked with its status and the EFAST2 acknowledgement ID, right on the plan.
How it fits into CX
Government Filings lives on the plan record — each plan has a 5500 tab that shows its filing history. Filing work runs through CX projects and tasks, so form selection, data review, client signing, and submission each show up as steps in your workflow. Client-facing steps (like "Fill & Sign Form 5500") go through the Client Portal, and completed filings sit alongside the plan's other records.
A quick look
The 5500 tab lists each submission for the plan. Each entry shows the submission status — Pending while EFAST2 processes it, then Accepted (or Rejected) — along with the acknowledgement ID you can copy for your records.
How a filing comes together
At a high level, a filing moves through these stages:
Select forms — choose the form type (5500, 5500-SF, or 5500-EZ) and the schedules that apply, with the option to load last year's selections.
Review data and build the draft — CX pre-fills what it can; your team completes the rest in the form editor, filtering by required or unfilled fields.
Validate — CX checks the filing against EFAST2 rules. Fix errors; review warnings.
Sign — send the form to the client to sign, or enter the signer's EFAST2 User ID and PIN to sign at submission. Credentials are used for the submission and are not stored.
Submit and track — CX submits to EFAST2 and records the acknowledgement ID, filing ID, and received time. If a correction is needed later, the form can be marked as amended and resubmitted.
Basic walkthrough: check a filing's status
Open the filing from Filings (or from the client's record).
Find the submission for the plan year you need. Its status shows Pending, Accepted, or Rejected.
Click the record to view the acknowledgement ID to copy it for your records or for follow-up with the DOL.
