Default columns let an admin choose which columns show on the main tables in Stax.ai, and in what order, for the whole team or for specific groups. Everyone assigned to a default opens those tables with the same layout. New team members don't have to build their views from scratch, and people who work together see the same information.
Key benefits
Everyone starts on the same page. Your team sees the same columns in the same order, so a plan list looks the same no matter who opens it.
Views that fit each group's work. Give your compliance group plan and census columns, and give your onboarding group project and task columns, each with its own default.
Faster onboarding. New users get your firm's standard layout on day one.
Personal choice still works. Anyone can adjust their own columns. They can go back to the default at any time.
Which tables use default columns
You can set default columns for these tables:
Projects
Tasks
Companies
Plans
People
Census
Census Employees
How defaults are applied
Team default: Applies to everyone on your team who isn't covered by a group configuration. You can have one team default.
Group configuration: Applies to the members of the groups you assign to it. A group can belong to only one configuration.
No configuration: If neither applies, a table shows its built-in columns.
A group configuration takes priority over the team default. If someone belongs to more than one group that has a configuration, Stax.ai uses the first matching configuration in the list.
Note: Required columns always show, so they can't be removed from a default.
How to create a default column configuration
Before you start: You need admin access. If you want a group configuration, set up the group first. See Creating User Permission Groups.
Click Settings, then click Data & Tables. The Default Columns section lists any configurations your team already has.
Click New Configuration. The New Column Configuration window opens.
Enter a Name, such as "Firm standard" or "Compliance team." Each configuration needs its own name.
Choose who the configuration applies to: a. To use it for the whole team, turn on Team default. b. To use it for certain groups only, leave Team default off. Then pick one or more groups under Groups.
Note: If your team already has a team default, the Team default switch isn't available on other configurations.
For each table, choose the columns you want from Available columns. Arrange them under Displayed order. If you don't pick any extra columns for a table, it shows only its required columns.
Click Save Configuration. You'll see "Default columns updated." The new configuration appears in the list, showing each table and its columns in display order.
You're all set! Everyone covered by the configuration sees the new columns the next time they open those tables.
How to edit or delete a configuration
Go to Settings > Data & Tables.
Find the configuration and click its options menu (...).
Choose one of these:
Edit: Change the name, who it applies to, or the columns. Then click Save Configuration.
Delete: Click Delete to confirm.
Important: Deleting a configuration removes the default for every user and group assigned to it. Those users go back to the team default, or to the built-in columns if there's no team default.
Changing your own columns
Default columns are a starting point. Anyone can still change their own view:
Open a table, such as Plans.
Click More, then click Configure Columns.
Choose and arrange your columns.
Your personal columns are saved in the browser you're using. To go back to your team's default, click More, then click Reset Default Columns.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Default Columns in Settings. Only admins can manage default columns. Ask an admin on your team for help.
A user doesn't see the new default. They may have their own column changes saved. Have them click More > Reset Default Columns on that table.
I can't save my configuration. Check that it has a name no other configuration uses. If Team default is off, make sure you picked at least one group. Also check that none of those groups already belong to another configuration.
