Overview
This guide walks you through how to set up due dates for both projects and individual tasks so you can manage timelines effectively and ensure timely completion of retirement plan work. By assigning clear deadlines, you create accountability for internal team members and clients while enabling automated reminders.
Understanding when to use fixed dates versus relative dates allows you to standardize repeatable workflows and maintain flexibility for unique situations. Completing this workflow helps you reduce missed deadlines and improve overall service delivery.
Common Uses

β
During annual administration or compliance cycles where task deadlines should automatically adjust based on the project launch date.
β
When assigning ad hoc tasks that require a specific calendar deadline.
β
When you want reminder notifications to prompt internal users or clients to complete required actions on time.
How To
Set the Project Due Date
Navigate to the project you wish to update.
Select the due date field.
Pick a due date.
Important: Project due dates must be set as a specific calendar date.
Configure Task Due Dates When Launching a Template
While launching a project from a template, review the list of included tasks.
For each task, identify the Due Date field.
Select one of the following options as appropriate:
a. Set a specific calendar date.
b. Set the task to be due a specific number of days after the project launch date.Enter the required date or number of days.
Complete the project launch.
Verify that each task reflects the correct due date.
Note: Tasks set to be due a specific number of days after project launch will automatically calculate their deadlines based on the project launch date.
Set a Due Date for a Manually Created Task
Open the project where you want to add the task.
Create a new task within the project.
Enter the task details and assign the responsible party.
Locate the Due Date field.
Select a specific calendar date.
Save the task.
Important: Manually created tasks require a fixed calendar date and cannot be set as a relative number of days after project launch.
Confirm Assignments and Reminders
Open each task and verify it is assigned to the correct internal user or client contact.
Ensure a due date is present for every task that requires tracking.
Confirm reminder notifications are enabled for assigned users.
Important: Reminder notifications are only sent when a task has both an assigned responsible party and a due date, unless the task is a client task. If the task is a client task, the client may still receive reminders based on the due date.
Review the Full Timeline
Review the project due date to ensure it aligns with regulatory or client-driven deadlines.
Scan all task due dates to confirm they are realistic and properly sequenced.
Adjust any dates that create conflicts or bottlenecks.
Save any updates to ensure the final timeline reflects your intended schedule.
